  - Illustrated talks on bellringing :

Andrew Young gives illustrated talks on bells and bellringing to interested groups, including Rotary Clubs, Probus Clubs, Women's Institutes, Mothers' Unions, and other local interest groups.  If you would be interested in hosting a talk, please contact Andrew Young.

  - Visits to the tower :

We can open the tower up for groups (for example Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows) to visit and see for yourselves what goes on.  You will visit the ringing chamber and se how the bells are rung.  A CCTV link to the belfry allows you to watch the bells ringing from the safety and comfort of the ringing chamber.

  -  Open Tower :

An opportunity for anyone who is interested to visit the tower and see for yourselves what goes on (as above).  Open tower sessions are often held in conjunction with other church events (Summer Fair, Christmas Fair) and are advertised in the parish magazine and bulletin.

Details of the bells

 <Back to top>

  • The back six were cast by Taylor's of Loughborough in 1901
  • The bells were originally rung from the ground floor, but were moved upstairs in 1980.  The ringing chamber is accessed up a short (but quite steep) staircase.
  • The trebles were added in 1988. They were cast by Eijsbout, and hung by Eayre & Smith.
  • The tenor weighs 12-3-15, and are in the key of G.

Where are we?

 <Back to top>

  • Oadby is on the south-east outskirts of Leicester, on the A6 towards Market Harborough
  • The Ringing Centre is located at St. Peter's church, on the junction of London Road and Wigston Road
  • Entrance is normally through the south door, although the north door is sometimes unlocked as well.
  • Parking near the church can be difficult.  There is a small public car park next to the St. Peter's Centre. across Wigston Road from the church.  Failing this there are two large public car parks in the village, about 10 minutes walk from the church.  There is also some roadside parking, but this is limited to 40 or 60 minutes.  Please do not use the British Legion car park or the Walter Charles Centre car park.

We are extremely grateful to the Worshipful Company of Founders, whose generous support, through the Central Council of Church Bellringers, funded the purchase of equipment to establish the Oadby Ringing Centre.  We also thank the Rector of Oadby parish, the PCC, the DCC and the Oadby ringers for their support.  In addition we thank Rob Hemmings, Chris Hughes (Abel software) and David Bagley (simulator hardware) for their technical assistance.
